The Omega QR-s is essentially a sleeker iteration of the top-tier Omega QR, yet it encompasses all the flagship features. It incorporates Shunyata Research's acclaimed QR/BB™ technology, derived from their pioneering power distribution products, enabling effortless and efficient powering of any device directly from the wall. Additionally, it comes with three DF-SS Cable Elevators. As with all Shunyata cables, the Omega QR-s undergoes the brand's proprietary KPIP processing over a duration of four days.

Shunyata Research’s Caelin Gabriel was given a challenge.  Create a design platform that would finally answer the question, “What level of performance is actually achievable from power cord technology?”.  Remove any and all constraints regarding construction time and difficulty and ignore cost limitations to produce the ultimate power cord.

The Omega QR was the result of that research project that spanned more than 3 years, involving literally hundreds of tests, designs and construction solutions.  Then, many requested a smaller brother that was smaller, lighter in weight and more flexible and designed for source components.  And the Omega QR-s is born.

APPLICATIONS



The Omega QR-s is a legitimate power conditioner in a cable.  The patented QR/BB™ technology that drives Shunyata Research’s reference power conditioners is now available in a flexible cable that can be plugged directly into the wall socket or into a power condition.  No intermediate chassis or boxes needed or the requisite extra power cable; fewer connections, more floor and rack space freed up.  The QR/BB™ technology improves dynamics while the integrated NR technology reduces power line noise.


The Omega QR-s is a slightly downsized version of the Omega QR.  The smaller diameter tube, lighter weight and greater flexibility make it ideal for use with source equipment.  The ideal application for the Omega QR-s would be DACs, CD players, preamplifiers, digital processors, integrated amplifiers or other source equipment. The Omega QR-s can power these electronics direct to a wall outlet or through one of our power distributors like the Everest or Denali.


For high power amplifiers, above 200 watt/ch, use the Omega QR.



TECHNOLOGY



DTCD™ Analysis is a technique that measures instantaneous current through low impedance electrical conductors and contacts. Shunyata Research uses it to optimize the design, specification, and construction of parts, conductors, noise circuits, and materials to ensure maximum current delivery performance. Shunyata Research’s skill at reducing impedance to improve dynamic instantaneous current is unparalleled. More than any other design parameter, DTCD™ allows listeners to experience life-like low-frequency performance from even the highest-current amplifiers as well as the immediacy and dynamic contrasts of a live musical performance.

The ‌‌QR/BB™ is a patented device which dramatically enhances the perception of dynamic impact and timing when connected to amplifiers or other high-current electronics. The ‌‌QR/BB™ is unique in that it provides a local reserve of energy, or Coulomb charge, that mitigates the inductive reactance of the AC power line without using coils, transformers or capacitors. The ‌‌QR/BB™ acts as an instantaneous energy reserve when placed in-line with an AC power supply.

The NIC™ (Noise Isolation Chamber) is a patented technology that reduces high frequency power line noise. NICs™ use a non-reactive ferroelectric substance that actually absorbs high frequency noise. This reduces noise without any of the negatives associated with power filter coils, capacitors and transformers.

Shunyata Research has developed its own line of CopperCONN™ Carbon Fiber superior conductivity compared to bronze or brass type connectors. The internal contacts are culled from solid OFE copper and feature a high-tension, spring-loaded contact for a vice-like grip. This contributes to a measurable improvement in DTCD™ performance and a correspondingly obvious difference in audible performance.


CopperCONN™ connectors have a measurably lower contact-junction resistance and are hermetically sealed with an inert compound that protects the contacts and wires from corrosion. This also ensures that the wires cannot become loose, fray or pull out from the head shell. This guarantees a lifetime of reliable performance that does not degrade over time.

ArNi® wire was designed by Shunyata Research to be the finest quality wire available. It begins with the highest purity of copper and silver metals available, including Ohno (single crystal), PCOCC silver and OFE C0101 conductors. Fluorocarbon dielectrics, usually only found in aerospace applications that have exceptional electrical characteristics including extremely low dielectric absorption, high dielectric strength and superb heat resistance. When used in digital wiring it significantly reduces transient energy storage and release which affects phase noise performance.
VTX-Ag cables are uniquely constructed with both an inner, center conductor made of pure silver and an outer concentric ring conductor made of pure copper. It is made using the finest fluorocarbon insulation to minimize dielectric absorption and re-radiation which translates to an improvement in resolution and clarity. VTX-Ag delivers the speed and clarity of silver and the midrange warmth and three dimensional power in the lower octaves of copper without imparting any of the negatives associated with either metal.
Shunyata Research uses only the highest purity of copper available for the production of its wire products. OFE Alloy 101 or C10100 is the highest grade of copper with a minimum 99.99% purity and a conductivity rating of 101% IACS. OFE stands for oxygen-free electrolytic and supersedes the term OFHC (oxygen-free high conductivity). C10100 is the only grade of copper that comes with a written certification of purity.
Simple crimping, soldering, brazing and screws are all inferior methods of joining two wires or terminals together. Sonic welding uses high-energy sonic waves to literally join two metals together at a molecular level and cold-welding uses high-energy pneumatic pressure to bond metals. Shunyata Research uses both methods to secure connections that do not degrade over time.
Fluorocarbon dielectrics are usually only found in wire used in the aerospace industry, satellites and only the most expensive audiophile cabling. It has special electrical characteristics; very low dielectric absorption, high dielectric strength and exceptional heat resistance. When used in audio and power cables is reduces the perception of dynamic compression and it improves sonic low-level resolution and clarity.
Kinetic Phase Inversion Processing was developed by Caelin Gabriel after years of research into the underlying causes of various effects such as burn-in, wire directionality and the effects of cryogenic treatment. He discovered that there was an underlying core principle that burn-in and cryogenics only partially addressed. Once the governing principle was understood it became possible to create a processor that reduces the need for long burn-in periods and eliminates the effects of cryogenic treatment. Four-days of continuous KPIP™ processing dramatically reduces the sonic ups and downs associated with burn-in, delivering a relaxed and natural presentation.



NR Noise Reduction


Shunyata Research’s exclusive NR (Noise Reduction) technology is a multi-stage filter network that measurably reduces power-line and component-generated noise, producing better purity of tone and clarity. It delivers a stunning background of silence to recordings, allowing the listener to hear into recordings as never before.  Every nuance of meaningful content is revealed, bringing to life music’s most consequential moments as if the performers are in the room with the listener.
