Clearaudio Concept Turntable

The Clearaudio Concept combines contemporary good looks and German engineering to create a beautiful piece of equipment. The Concept is easy to set up, particularly if a Clearaudio cartridge is purchased with the Concept. The cartridge can be premounted at the factory and set up prior to shipping. With surprisingly little fuss you will be spinning records in no time. Clearaudio’s description of the Concept as a plug and play turntable is very apt.

While not the least expensive entry in the world of turntables, the Concept can be purchased with a Clearaudio moving coil cartridge and the Verify tonearm for a relatively modest $2,200 investment.  This is one of the best turntable values out there. In our opinion, the Clearaudio Concept outperforms the Rega and is much better built than comparably priced VPI tables.  The Concept offers a quality build and sleek styling that is impressive at this price point.

With a simple turn of a knob speeds can be adjusted to 33, 45 or 78. A nicely designed cueing lever allows for simple and easy arm pick up and lowering.  A well-made product, the Concept is a fantastic value.

The Concept features a solid 1.18” thick platter resting on a smaller subplatter that is powered by a belt driven motor. The low noise bearings keep the motor impressively silent. The bearings are described by Clearaudio as “a polished and tempered steel shaft in a sintered bronze bushing, running on a mirror of Teflon.”

The Verify tonearm is magnetically suspended, resulting in totally friction-free movement.  A few highly priced turntables employ this technique, but the Concept is the first modestly priced turntable we have seen using this innovative suspension method.

The Concept produces substantial bass. We were able to hear excellent clarity and separation of instruments in classical recordings. Whether we paired the Concept with smaller bookshelf speakers like the LS50’s, or our meaty Magico S5’s, the result was an impressive and consistent  performing turntable.

Purchase a Concept turntable and we know you will never look back.  The Clearaudio Concept has received raves from many reviewers, both in audio magazines and on web sites. The Concept is a 2014 Absolute Sound Editor’s Choice winner and a Stereophile Recommended Component.
